This nice weather is really tempting to spend more time outside. Many people start to run to retain perfect bikini figure, to participate on a marathon or similar running event, or they simply run for fun.

Have you started to run or plan to do so?
You obtained perfect running shoes, special running equipment, downloaded the best motivated running charts, and you might already have your first miles. Yeah, you are a hobby runner, great!! … But what is next?

Many runners forget about a very important step: recover the muscles and do proper stretching after running. This is somehow not part of the workout in most of the cases. Put your hand on your heart and tell me, how much time do you spend on stretching after your running sesssion?

You know, I totally understand if this is not so much. For a beginner, the first 2-3 km are too exhausting. You are happy to manage your planned route and if you are done, you just want to lay down on the couch to enjoy the relaxing times.

But why is it so important to do stretching exercises after a workout?

Running is a very good sport to release stress, to train the body and improve endurance but on the other hand, running can lead to injuries because of its repetitive nature (as the movement are sagittal – forward-backward) and resulting muscular imbalances. While running we are using a lot of muscles but on the other hand, we use more the lower body, which causes very tight muscles eg. in hamstrings, quadriceps, tibialis anterior. In some cases, low mobility of ankles and hips are causing additional problems. This is only a time question to get injury or have pain while running or after the workout.

Stretching exercises restore the muscle tension and improve the range of motion so you can run better the next time you hit the road.
